Does CTT Portugal Deliver on Sundays [2026-2027]
Yes, CTT Portugal (CTT Correios de Portugal) delivers select parcels on Sundays. While traditional universal postal services, standard letter mail, and registered office correspondence remain paused over the weekend, CTT operates dedicated Sunday parcel deliveries through its specialized express parcel division, CTT Expresso. This service accommodates the substantial growth in Portuguese e-commerce demand and cross-border shopping from major retail marketplaces such as Amazon.
Sunday fulfillment is available in high-density urban areas, specifically targeting residential customers who are away from home during standard weekday working hours. Consequently, consumers can receive online shopping orders at their doorstep across major metropolitan centers on Sunday without waiting for the standard Monday distribution run.
Availability, Time Windows/Hours, Purpose
CTT’s Sunday delivery operations primarily concentrate on high-density demographic corridors across mainland Portugal, most notably Greater Lisbon, Greater Porto, and surrounding district capitals. Rather than servicing every rural village on weekends, delivery routes focus on strategic urban postal codes with high package density. Standard Sunday delivery windows generally run between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM, depending on localized delivery runs and driver routing.
Recipients typically receive advance notifications via SMS or email detailing a projected time slot window, enabling them to anticipate arrival or redirect the shipment if necessary. The primary purpose of this seven-day operational rollout is convenience: it ensures working professionals, busy households, and weekend shoppers receive parcels when they are actually home to sign for them, which substantially reduces initial delivery failure rates and eliminates the need for weekday post office collections.
Furthermore, automated 24/7 Locky locker networks across Portugal complement this schedule by providing self-service parcel pickup every Sunday without operational time restrictions.
Shipping Cost and Delivery Terms
Pricing for CTT Sunday fulfillment depends heavily on contract agreements, merchant logistics, and selected transport tiers. For everyday online shoppers purchasing from partner e-commerce platforms, Sunday delivery often carries no additional surcharge beyond standard retail shipping rates, as high-volume merchants absorb weekend fulfillment costs into their standard commercial agreements.
For independent business accounts and ad-hoc corporate senders using CTT Expresso services, scheduling weekend or premium timed transit (such as specialized Saturday or bespoke weekend deliveries) typically incurs an additional surcharged tariff above standard base rates. Standard delivery terms require a valid physical street address, an active recipient mobile contact for electronic arrival alerts, and someone available on-site to receive the parcel.
If a delivery attempt fails on Sunday, CTT drivers do not return the item immediately to the central sender; instead, they leave a physical or digital delivery notice (aviso de entrega) and either reschedule the attempt for the next business day or redirect the parcel to the nearest CTT Post Office or Locky collection locker for customer retrieval.
